Forever Marilyn Returns to Palm Springs

Marilyn Monroe Statue in Palm Springs

Palm Springs Art in Public Places Forever Marilyn Returns to Palm Springs

She’s back in a big way, the 26-ft tall statue of the Hollywood icon in her famous billowing white dress was unveiled in front of the Palm Springs Art Museum, facing Palm Canyon Drive, the city’s main tourist strip.

The artwork, sculpted by John Seward Johnson II in 2011, was inspired by a scene from the film, “The Seven Year Itch.” It first came to Palm Springs in 2012 as a rental for 26 months and moved to New Jersey in 2014, said Aftab Dada, chairman of P.S. Resorts, a local hospitality group.

In addition to the now famous, Palm Springs Art in Public Places Forever Marilyn Returns, the PS Public Arts Commission has long been committed to Art Everywhere for Everyone with their Public Art Projects throughout the city.

Making Art Public Series

Adjacent to the Marilyn statue, and across from the Palm Springs Art Museum in a construction pit, is David Cerny’s, The Babies Sculpture. 10 gigantic, 8′ tall sculptures in formation.
